In June 1994, Glasgow based, Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) Ltd. was founded. It has now grown to encompass offices in Dublin, Boston, San Francisco and Melbourne.
IES’ foundation lies in the main concepts, fossil fuels are finite and as buildings account for 40% of the world’s CO2 emissions they must be made more energy efficient.
Most building energy consumption and therefore CO2 emissions are associated with maintaining occupant comfort, and as long as energy was cheap, sustainability wasn’t high up the agenda, and simplistic rule of thumb approaches were used to calculate environmental performance huge amounts of energy were and are still wasted.
IES was set up to take the power of primarily academic building performance tools and deliver them to the general building market, allowing lean, clean and green building design. We are now arguably the worldwide market leader in this field.
