IES and Daikin North America launch VRV system specification tool

A new specification tool enabling consultants to make accurate climate control system efficiency calculations at the design stage has been launched by Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) in conjunction with Daikin North America, LLC.
With the Daikin VRV plug in for IESVE you can take advantage of the enhanced energy simulation capabilities with the IES platform and combine in a fully validated modeling methodology for Daikin VRV systems including the innovative and energy saving “VRT” function.

The software allows architects and engineers to accurately predict an entire system’s efficiency in-situ from the outset of a project, helping to ensure that systems meet today’s tough energy efficiency legislation, while reducing the risk of over-specification and helping to control project costs.
The IES plug-in covers the Daikin VRV–III and VRV-IV outdoor and related indoor models. It is able to make hundreds of thousands of individual calculations during analysis and can be used throughout projects, from planning through concept, schematic and detailed design, through to commissioning and operation.
Full thermal dynamic simulations give annual loads, power input and efficiencies, which can then be used to demonstrate system efficiencies. Alternative configurations can also be assessed to give system designers more flexibility and allowing them to easily evaluate the best option to maximise energy efficiency and lower building energy use.
Users will also benefit from automatic sizing of the VRV system and selection of the correct indoor and outdoor units based on the building’s heating and cooling loads.
The Daikin plug-in is free, requiring IESVE 2015 modules ModelIT, ApacheSim, and ApacheLoads. Training is required to ensure the best VRV system is chosen and is installed correctly.

- Allows Branch Selector Box group selection to better capture the characteristics of the heat recovery system.
- Generates power input calculations for the whole year using detailed engineering product data.
- Calculates the building load using ASHRAE load method.
- Exports VRV equipment sizing details to Excel for review.
The Daikin VRV Plug-in is free to download from Daikin City or at daikinac.com website. Comprehensive training and modeling guide will be provided by Daikin North America to help users utilize the tool and ensure a successful VRV system design.
