IMPRESS

New Easy to Install and Manufacture Pre-Fabricated Modules Supported by a BIM based Integrated Design Process

Project Summary

IMPRESS aimed to develop a new range of easy to install panels for retrofit, which reduce energy demand while preserving or improving building aesthetics. This includes three prefabricated panels, both for re-cladding and over-cladding, together with nano/micro particle based coatings, to achieve anti-corrosion and ageing resistance, improved solar reflectance and anti-vandalism properties.

To produce the panels, an innovative design/manufacturing process was created that includes Reconfigurable Moulding, 3D laser scanning, 3D printing technologies, and a cloud based BIM database. A Decision Support Software also helps the end user choose the most suitable renovation option.

Two test sites were used to validate final as-built product performance against the initial design.

IES' Role

IES coordinated the project, bringing their knowledge and expertise as world leaders in Dynamic Simulation Modelling and proprietary VE software to the project as an essential component for the creation of the energy models and final BIM platform.
