What's new?

With ease of use and faster simulation times at the heart of this release, VE 2018 brings greater capability and increased functionality that’s both in line with industry developments and in response to customer feedback. Take a tour of all the latest features below.


New NECB Navigator for Canada

New NECB (National Energy Code of Canada for Building) Navigator. Features include:

New ASHRAE 90.1 Enhancements

  • Updated ECB (2010/2013) and PRM (2007/2010/2013) Reports
  • Zone grouping assignment
  • Automatic Receptacle controls
  • Optimal Start of HVAC Systems
  • Chilled water supply temperature reset

A New Start-Page

Upon opening VE 2018 Software, you will be welcomed with a new start page. Features include:

  • Pinned Weather data, of your most common location settings
  • New Project creation: Prototype model import options, including ASHRAE 209 prototype models
  • Dynamic information of new events and online content (new scripts, reports, etc.)

Both new and experienced users will use the new start page as a launching point into their IESVE model.

Simulation Speed Enhancements

Simulations are now ~10 times faster by utilizing the new parallel simulation mode feature. Simulations can be divided by:

  • Number of cores available
  • Number of months (user choice)

Once the divided simulations are complete, they are automatically joined back together into one simulation result set.

New VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) Capabilities

Detailed VRF capabilities in ApacheHVAC.

  • Air source VRF with heat recovery
  • Water source VRF with heat recovery
  • Fully integrated with detailed HVAC modeling (e.g. for ASHRAE 90.1 etc.)
  • Complete with performance curve data sets
  • Auto-sizable prototype systems available

New DHW (Domestic Hot Water) Feature

Detailed DHW capabilities in ApacheHVAC.

  • Multiple DHW loops, with/without recirculation
  • Integrated with heat recovery, storage tanks, etc.
  • DHW Demand and DHW Zones set by room-level or zone-level input

New Loads (+Energy) Calculations Enhancements

  • ASHRAE Design Weather upgraded to version 6 (2017 Handbook of Fundamentals)
  • Enhanced HVAC Inputs in Building Template Manager, linked to ApacheHVAC
  • Visualization of heating/cooling design loads results onto model viewer (previously only energy results)
  • System schedules & Setpoints enhancements
  • Ground-contact floor calculation improvements
  • Report improvements (RH values and SHR)

New Daylight Simulation Enhancements

  • Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) & Annual Sunlight Exposure (ASE) graphics improvements and shown on working plane of 3D model viewer
  • Contoured working planes
  • Global processing capability to entire model for sDA and ASE
  • Rule-based daylight-sensor locations (e.g. by orientation) for daylight-harvesting

New Online Resources

  • Searchable website for Help (no PDFs)
  • Content Store for Scripts, reports, formula profiles, weather files, templates, HVAC systems, spreadsheets, etc.
  • User-group website for beta-testing & enhancement requests
