IES Consulting performed energy modeling for the award winning Ireland Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010.
The Ireland Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China presents Chinese visitors with a vision of Ireland as a country. Designed by OPW – Architectural Services, the pavillion occupies a site of 3,000 sqm and contains 13 galleries, a temporary exhibition centre, a courtyard performance plaza and a hospitality suite for business and promotional use. The pavilion's theme symbolised the relationship between urban and nature under the title "Urban Space and the Evolution of Urban Life Style".
IES Consulting performed energy modeling to identify potential design challenges in the Shanghai climate. Using a simulation approach to this challenge IES Consulting worked to optimise the HVAC design and quantify the expected comfort conditions within the pavilion. The building design features include a green roof, a performance glazing system to enhance solar shading protection and natural ventilation.
