The 0.6 acre Gardens international site is located at the former General Post Office complex and Roche’s ‘Hanging Gardens’ and Mercantile Building, Lower Henry Street, Limerick, which were originally established in 1801. This new iconic Grade A office development combines new contemporary office accommodation with the old heritage buildings and will be Limerick’s first city centre LEED Gold certified office scheme.

IES Consulting provided LEED Energy Modelling services for the development. The project is set to achieve Gold certification under the LEED v3 BD+C Core and Shell rating system. Our expert consultants utilised their years of global experience to maximise the energy model credits through detailed energy modelling using the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE). Throughout the process our consultants worked closely with the client and design team and used their extensive LEED knowledge to target areas where additional energy savings could be made.

The building was designed to be highly energy efficient, both through the use of energy efficient equipment, and by employing a number of low energy design strategies including, but not limited to; a high performance building envelope, high efficiency lighting fixtures, high efficiency boilers and chillers, waterside-economiser and Phase Change Material (PCM).

The combination of energy conservation measures led to a total energy cost saving of 32.9% when compared to the ASHRAE 90.1 2007 baseline building.
