Between 31st October and 12th November, global leaders will descend on Glasgow (the city where it all began for IES!) for the long-awaited global climate summit, COP26. Widely considered as a last chance to put the world on track to meet climate targets, this generation defining event could signal make or break for the 2050 Race to Zero.
With buildings and cities representing an area of massive potential for driving CO2 reductions around the world, we invite you to join us and our partners to learn, share and engage with all the latest insights from across the built environment sector to help take collective action towards net-zero targets. Whether you plan to attend in person, or tap into the climate conversation virtually, rest assured that we have a whole range of options within our packed schedule for you to get involved, no matter where in the world you are.
Let’s start building a net-zero future now!
Our COP26 programme includes a series of online and in-person events, presentations, panel debates and exhibitions.
IES CEO & Founder, Don McLean, will be presenting in the Buildings Pavilion Boardroom of the COP26 Blue Zone, on the topic of "Digitalisation for a decarbonised built environment." The presentation will also be streamed on the BuildingToCOP, We Mean Business and GlobalABC websites.
As partners of the Buildings Pavilion, Don will have access to the Blue Zone throughout the conference and will be available for meetings and press enquiries. Please contact our team to schedule an appointment.

Join IES and a panel of built environment experts for a live discussion on how digital twins could lead to net-zero buildings! In this free, online session hosted by the B1M, we’ll talk to energy solutions and built environment specialists from SSE, the Centre for Digital Built Britain, Mott MacDonald and the University of Glasgow about the benefits of this technology, how it fits in with other holistic approaches to infrastructure planning, and where they see it heading in the future. The webinar will cover topics featured in the B1M's latest film "Here's the Key to Net-Zero Buildings".
Date: 2nd November | 4pm - 5pm GMT
After the Pandemic presents 12 days of exhibitions, workshops, presentations and performances aimed at helping our cities and communities become greener, more resilient and vibrant. Visit the IES exhibit where you can engage with project case studies from across Scotland, video content and other interactive elements, showcasing our legacy as a Glasgow-based climate tech leader for the built environment. This free event is open to all.
IES Research Lead, Adalberto Guerra Cabrera, will also be presenting at the event on Thursday 11th November from 4:15pm - 5pm, explaining how our Digital Twin technology is helping to create energy efficient, zero-carbon built environments around the world. The presentation will also be streamed live.
Location: Strathclyde Union | The University of Strathclyde

The VISION 2045 Summit, produced by TBD Media Group, aims to support global efforts to create a better and fairer world for all. IES will join experts from Siemens Energy, SGB SMIT and EOS here on Monday 8th November, 14:20 - 14:50 GMT, for a panel session on the topic of ‘Affordable and Clean Energy.'
Post-COP 26, we’ll also be teaming up with VISION 2045 on a documentary exploring the power of digital technologies in achieving a decarbonised built environment, so watch out for further details on that coming soon!
Location: Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel | Edinburgh
Dates: 8th November – 10th November
IES have teamed up with COP26 Principal Partners, SSE, to deliver a digital twin of the SEC Campus buildings which form the COP26 venue. This digital twin will be displayed by SSE in both the Green and Blue Zones at COP26, as part of their ‘AR Demonstrator Platform for Smart Cities.’ The platform will allow visitors to immerse themselves in a live representation of the COP26 site and discover what future net zero solutions could look like, providing an understanding of how this could be achieved and what the results could be.
Location: Smart Cities Augmented Reality (AR) Demonstrator Platform | The Glasgow Science Centre (Green Zone) & SSE Recharge Lounge | The SSE Hydro (Blue Zone)
Over the 12 days of COP26, Scottish Enterprise will host an online virtual exhibition zone to showcase innovative Scottish businesses and stakeholder organisations who are leading the way in climate expertise and solutions. You can visit IES at the free virtual exhibition space to explore our resources and speak directly to our team.
While you're there, make sure you sign up for the ‘Heat Innovation for a Cooler Tomorrow’ session on Thursday 4th November, 11:00 - 12:30 GMT to hear about the Scottish Government's new Net Zero Public Sector Building Standard.
IES is proud to be part of a coalition of almost 100 partner organisations across the built environment sector who will support the delivery of Build Better Now - a virtual exhibition and online events series that will highlight the Built Environment’s role in climate change mitigation, throughout the COP26 Conference and beyond.
Our VE Gaia software helps building designers, architects and engineers integrate building performance from the earliest stages of design, helping to significantly reduce the energy and environmental impacts of buildings. For COP26, we’re offering VE Gaia for FREE for a limited time. Join us in tackling the climate crisis by taking advantage of this offer today.
