Free Webinar: Defining the Digital Twin - Construction’s Powerful + Misunderstood Technology

We’re delighted to have teamed up with the B1M to bring together experts from across the industry to address the many misconceptions surrounding the term 'Digital Twin'. Read on to find out more, and how to sign up for this free live webinar.

In recent years the term 'Digital Twin' has exploded across the AEC sector, and as is often the case with any buzzword, many definitions have emerged. There is now many misconceptions and misuses of the term, causing much confusion and sometimes dismissal of it. When in actual fact, in their true form Digital Twins are invaluable to the industry achieving decarbonisation.

At IES we talk about the Performance Digital Twin, which is a dynamic virtual replica of a building or group of buildings that combines physics-based simulation, real-time data, machine learning and AI to ensure it responds and behaves like its real-world counterpart to provide detailed insights across a range of building performance metrics.

However, over the years the term Digital Twin has often been used interchangeably with other terms like building information modelling (BIM). This miscommunication threatens to devalue the real benefits of the technology. Furthermore, investing in solutions without a clearly defined use case or understanding of how solutions align to business needs, can further result in disillusionment and unmet client expectations.

Join us for this special live discussion presented by The B1M, where you’ll hear experts from across the sector tackle the important question of what constitutes a Digital Twin, and, fundamentally, what does not. We’ll also dive into the incredible potential of this technology with some real-world examples of its impact to date, before inviting open questions from the audience.

The event will be hosted by The B1M's Fred Mills and the expert panel will include:

Richard Fletcher  – Executive Board Director, IES
Emma Hooper – Head of Information Management Strategy, RLB Digital
Dan Rossiter FCIAT – Built Environment Sector Lead, BSI
Mike Keeley – Associate Director, Digital, Turner & Townsend
