Last month saw the official launch of the EU +CityxChange (Positive City Exchange) Programme of which IES is proud to be a project partner. +CityxChange was launched by Ireland’s Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton T.D. at the Georgian House, Pery Square in Limerick .
Limerick, along with Trondheim in Norway, has been chosen to roll out the project that has the potential to revolutionise how we produce and use energy in European cities and towns.
The project is funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme in the call for ‘Smart Cities and Communities’ and is led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
IES’s role in the project is to develop a new Integrated Planning and Decision Support Tool that integrates the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) with IES iCD and iVN technology. These tools will spatially model the buildings across the city, the grid infrastructure, primary energy available and socio-economics modelling from project partner Future Analytics Consulting (FAC). Dashboards and customised displays will be designed for both technical users and the general public, allowing for informed decisions relating to all areas of spatial, economic, technical, environmental and social context as well as public consultation.
