VE Tech Tips - Open Street Map Import for Quick Geometry in IESVE
The VE allows users to import data from Open Street Map (OSM) directly into IESVE. This lets us quickly import additional geometry data, to add surroundings & context to our VE models.
This VE Tech Tip explores how to import from OSM, to quickly generate model geometry within the VE. It covers:
- Search for a specific site location on OSM.
- Select an area of the map from which to import geometry.
- Use the accurate location data to input the site co-ordinates as the location to be used for shading calculations, and search for the closest available weather file for running a dynamic simulation.
- Edit the imported geometry to improve accuracy if required.
- Adjust the site orientation within the VE, to edit geometry more accurately.
- Import an example building from Revit to locate that geometry on the selected site.
