We’re proud to announce that IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) software has been featured as the primary building performance simulation tool in Vietnam's recently launched technical manual on indoor air quality assurance works according to TCVN 13521:2022.
The comprehensive manual, titled "Technical guidance for design, construction and operation of indoor air quality assurance works according to TCVN 13521:2022," was officially launched at ceremonies held in Ho Chi Minh City on March 27, 2025, and Hanoi on April 10, 2025.
Addressing Critical Indoor Air Quality Challenges
The technical manual addresses the urgent need for improved indoor air quality (IAQ) standards in Vietnam's construction and building design industry. Research shows that indoor air pollution can be 5-10 times higher than outdoor levels, making IAQ control and improvement a critical requirement for public health and quality of life.
Compiled by Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) in collaboration with the Center for Environment and Industrial Urban Affairs, the manual was developed from research commissioned by Vietnam's Ministry of Construction. The work establishes technical guidelines for designing, constructing, and operating buildings to ensure compliance with TCVN 13521:2022 standards for housing and public buildings.
IES Technology at the Forefront
IESVE was selected as the featured simulation tool due to its position as the world's leading building performance simulation software. The technology's comprehensive capabilities enable users to meet the complex performance requirements outlined in the new Vietnamese standards.
"We are honored that IESVE has been recognized as the primary tool for implementing these important indoor air quality standards in Vietnam," said Rohan Rawte, IES’s Business Head for the APAC Region. "This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to supporting global efforts to improve building performance and occupant health through advanced simulation technology."
The partnership began in September 2024 when the IES team visited HUCE in Vietnam to demonstrate the software's capabilities and benefits for addressing indoor air quality challenges.
Comprehensive Technical Guidance
The seven-chapter manual, developed under the editorial leadership of Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thi Hai Ha and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, covers:
Supporting Sustainable Construction Practices
The manual emphasizes the importance of green materials in construction and works as a key solution for improving indoor environments. This aligns with IES's commitment to sustainable building practices and energy-efficient design solutions.
The launch has garnered significant attention from Vietnamese media and construction industry professionals, highlighting the growing recognition of indoor air quality as a critical factor in building design and public health.
