Irish disability services provider enlists IES to spearhead climate action strategy

Ireland’s Central Remedial Clinic (CRC), a national charity and voluntary organisation which provides specialist care, treatment, and support for people with complex disabilities, has appointed IES, to lead a landmark energy management and climate action programme for its nationwide network of specialist facilities. The project will help CRC meet Ireland’s statutory Climate Action Mandate, achieving the public sector decarbonisation target of 51% by 2030 while cutting costs across its estate.

The three-year programme, which began in April 2025, spans CRC’s primary Dublin sites, regional centres, and local hubs. IES’s consultancy team will deploy advanced digital modelling tools to develop a clear, costed roadmap to reduce energy and manage carbon outputs across the estate. It will also provide a live dashboard for CRC’s team to review how facilities are working in practice.

IES will update CRC’s Climate Action Roadmap on an annual basis, guiding the CRC through the key performance indicators set out by the Department of the Environment, Climate, and Communications, to ensure lasting impact. From initial site visits and energy audits to the fine-tuning of building-management systems, IES will support CRC at every stage, including facilitating knowledge transfer to the organisation’s own facilities and sustainability teams.

Jane Mitchell, Head of General Services & Capital Projects at Central Remedial Clinic, commented: “Bringing IES on board marks a crucial step in CRC’s sustainability journey. We want to invest in a way that makes a lasting impact and we’re confident that IES’s data-led methodology and tailored approach will help us not only comply with the Climate Action Mandate but embed energy-efficient practices across our centres for years to come.”

CRC is an Irish national charity and voluntary organisation providing specialist care, treatment, and support for children and adults with complex disabilities. Established in 1951, the CRC operates a network of regional and local centres across Ireland, offering multidisciplinary medical, therapeutic and assistive-technology services to over 4,000 people.

Dónal O'Connor, associate director for consultancy at IES, added: “Ireland has established ambitious climate targets, leaving healthcare and other public sector organisations with an extensive set of obligations to fulfil. A big challenge for these types of organisations is that estates vary in size and age, bringing their own unique sets of challenges to address in a wider, holistic strategy.

“Using our state-of-the-art digital modelling and analytics tools, we will help CRC establish a bespoke, data-led roadmap to reduce its carbon footprint, achieve operational efficiencies, and set a benchmark for what healthcare sustainability can look like in Ireland.”
