IESVE and Arup Win Digital Construction Award for Design Innovation

We're thrilled to announce that IESVE has been recognized at the Digital Construction Awards 2026 for its use on the Mynydd Isa Campus project - a groundbreaking net-zero school transformation delivered by Arup.

The Digital Construction Awards celebrate the most pioneering projects, teams, and individuals driving innovation and technology across the built environment.

The Mynydd Isa Campus represents a significant milestone in sustainable education design. Delivered in 2025 across Flintshire, the 10,500 m² campus serves 1,300 pupils and achieves net-zero carbon in operation - all while maintaining thermal comfort, resilience to climate change, and a 25-year performance guarantee.

Arup selected IESVE for its advanced building physics simulation capability. Rather than relying on standard compliance models, the team used dynamic simulation to:

  • Model complex real-world scenarios: dual-mode ventilation, occupant behaviour, and future climate conditions
  • Optimize glazing, airtightness, and heating/cooling strategies with parametric testing
  • Integrate rooftop photovoltaics (1,080 panels) and energy export capacity
  • Validate that 25-year performance commitments were achievable before construction

The result was an evidence-based design process that transformed ambitious sustainability targets into measured outcomes:

  • 500,000+ kWh annual PV generation
  • 100+ tonnes annual CO₂ reduction
  • BREEAM "Excellent" rating
  • Unregulated energy consumption insights (25–45% of total) that shaped electrical strategy

For the client: lower operational costs, guaranteed comfort, and proven performance. For the industry: a benchmark demonstrating that advanced simulation removes risk from net-zero commitments.
