Best Industry Paper Award at the CiTA BIM Gathering 2017

Presenting at Ireland's leading academic forum on BIM and digital construction processes, IES researcher, Adalberto Guerra Cabrera has won Best Industry Paper Award at the recent CiTA BIM Gathering 2017 in Dublin.

He was presenting on IES R&D work for the European funded IMPRESS project. Covering “IMPRESS BIM Methodology (iBIMm) and Façade Retrofit Methodology using Cloud Based Open Source BIM”, the presentation was incredibly well received.

The IMPRESS project is creating a new range of easy to install and manufacturer pre-fabricated panels for retrofit, which will reduce energy demand while improving building aesthetics. This will be supported by a BIM based Integrated Design Process.

CiTA or the Construction IT Alliance is the most important BIM-related congress in Ireland, organised every 2 years, the topic this year was “Building Capabilities in Complex Environments.” CiTA acts as the secretariat to the National BIM council, and advises the council in the strategic direction of Ireland’s digital construction roadmap 2018-2021. This year, the Irish government launched its strategy to increase use of digital technology in key public works projects, in conjunction with the event.

The event was a 2 day conference, held in Croke Park, Dublin on November 23rd and 24th. There were 80 presentations, and 29 academic and industry papers accepted for the conference after a stringent selection and review process.

IES’s Gary Nixon, also presented at the conference on “Integration of Performance Analysis across the Building Lifecycle: The latest in Digital Design and Construction.”
