AECOM used IESVE energy modelling for two complex projects in Singapore.
Project One: The Founders’ Memorial Museum
Singapore Building Construction Authority (BCA)
The Founders’ Memorial is an iconic project that continues the journey of Singapore as a nation into the future of Singapore as a sustainable “City in Nature”. It has exhibitions, a viewing gallery and an amphitheatre. IESVE software was used to help achieve the client’s sustainability goals, by optimising energy efficiency and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Passive and active energy efficiency measures:
Green Rating System Performance
The wide array of simulations with IESVE helped with the client’s sustainability goal of achieving the Singapore's Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy (SLE) certification. Using IESVE’s ApacheHVAC application, a one stop solution was provided to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations, enhancing energy efficiency and optimising the HVAC systems.
Alternative Cooling Technologies (ACT)
With the IESVE ApacheHVAC application, alternative cooling technologies were implemented into the dynamic energy model, further simulating the additional reduction of the overall energy consumption due to the Passive Displacement Cooling (PDC) system in place. Leveraging on the convective heat transfer principles, the PDC system eliminates the air side energy consumption which further improves the energy efficiency of HVAC systems in the buildings. The flexibility of ApacheHVAC in designing the control systems and individual components allowed for the PDC system to be easily modelled.
PDC active measures:
The innovative use of IESVE software not only ensured compliance with stringent building codes but also helped the client go beyond their sustainability goals, contributing to significant cost savings.
Project Two: The Eastern Integrated Health Campus
Singapore Building Construction Authority (BCA)
The Eastern Integrated Health Campus (EIHC), in Singapore's Eastern region, is designed for the future, incorporating modularity, flexibility and future proofing to respond swiftly to challenges like pandemics. EIHC is not just a health facility, it's a holistic living experience, fostering community connections through thoughtful design and a commitment to wellbeing. Abundant green spaces, healing gardens and staff wellness facilities create a nature centric environment for patients and staff.
IESVE software was used to elevate the project’s sustainability goals, optimise design and ensure regulatory compliance.
Passive and active measures for sustainable design:
Unique HVAC Approach for Compliance
To meet stringent local and international building codes and regulations, the team
implemented a distinctive HVAC approach aligned with SS 530:2014 SS 553:2016 and ASHRAE 90.1 standards. The IESVE ApacheHVAC application played a pivotal role in simulating and optimising the HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and enhancing energy efficiency.
Comprehensive Performance Analysis
IESVE proved invaluable in conducting a wide array of performance analyses. From shading and glare analysis to energy modelling, the software enabled optimised building form and predicted energy consumption. IESVE allowed for a detailed analysis of the shading impact, ensuring minimal disruption to the neighbouring park and optimising the overall aesthetic appeal. The glare assessment for patient wards helped refine the façade design by striking a balance to minimise daylight glare probability, while prioritising natural daylight. This ensures a more comfortable environment for patients and enhances overall wellbeing.
Green Rating System Performance
The commitment to environmental responsibility is underscored by the exceptional performance of EIHC, under green rating systems. Leveraging IESVE, the campus' energy dynamics were simulated, as well as sustainable design methodologies, aiming to achieve higher green building rating under Singapore's Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy (SLE) certification.
