Meet the Front-Runners in the Race to Zero Energy Buildings
Paving the way for a more sustainable built environment
Voices of Change: The Experts in High Performing Buildings
The transition to energy efficient, low carbon buildings isn’t just a goal – it’s a challenge our industry is tackling every single day. Meet the front-runners who are using IES technology to shape the future of sustainable building design and operation, pushing the boundaries of simulation to deliver the high performing buildings of the future.
Pioneers of building performance since 1994
Dr Don Mclean
Founder & CEO, IES
Don explains the challenges that led him to establish IES over 30 years ago, the impact our technology has had in improving over 1.5 million buildings to date, and why it remains more relevant today than ever as the industry rises to the decarbonisation challenge.

If you can't measure it, you can't improve it
Richard Tibenham
Business Development Manager, IES Consultancy
Richard explores how the industry has shifted over the years, with the increased uptake of dynamic simulation tools allowing design teams to move beyond simple rules of thumb and design philosophies towards a more holistic, data driven approach whereby architecture and building services work together as one.

Case Study
University Hospital Monklands
Glasgow, UK
The new, state-of-the-art University Hospital Monklands is the first hospital in Scotland to be designed from the outset to be fully net zero for both the build and operation phases.
IES Consulting were proud to support the project, applying the modelling approach outlined by the Dynamic Simulation Guide they developed as part of Scotland’s Net Zero Public Sector Buildings (NZPSB) Standard.

Case Study
Santa Fe Senior Village
San Diego, United States
Santa Fe Senior Village is a prime example of how National Community Renaissance use IESVE to achieve high-performance, climate-conscious and affordable building designs, even on a limited budget.
Through an integrated design process, encapsulating conceptual energy analysis, HVAC system sizing and a life-cycle cost analysis, they were able to fine tune the operational economics to unlock long-term savings for the residents of this 54-unit complex.

Golden 1 Center
Sacramento, United States
Golden 1 Center was the first indoor sports venue to achieve LEED Platinum certification and was placed in the top 3% of all buildings certified.
AECOM used IESVE to carry out ASHRAE 90.1 LEED modelling for the project, which also boasts a 30% reduction in energy use over the stringent California Title 24 code and a 40% reduction in energy cost over ASHRAE 90.1:2007, while ensuring comfort for fans and players alike.

Case Study
University of Liverpool
Liverpool, UK
The University of Liverpool was the first ever project to use IES Live to track and verify savings from a recent HVAC refurbishment, and undertake advanced energy and carbon management of one of its campus buildings.
The project verified 23% energy savings and £25k operational cost savings in just 9 months. These savings continue to increase over time, and the university is now implementing the technology across its wider campus estate.
