The objective of CitySUMs was to perform a feasibility study relating to the integration of the IES Virtual Environment (IESVE) simulation software with the well-known SketchUp 3D drawing tool, as well as a set of Sustainable Urban Metrics (SUMs) and tools, to assess resource availability within a city.
The project aimed to enable groups of buildings to be designed simultaneously, integrated with existing land-uses, and for sustainable solutions to be generated for the user along with metrics to understand the implication of these solutions.
IES provided the key enabling technology for CitySUMs and succeeded in developing a prototype masterplanning tool which has since formed the basis for further research and development in this area.
