Creating a greener energy-positive city.

New Energy Solutions

Trondheim is situated in central Norway by the Trondheim Fjord and is Norway’s third most populated city. Trondheim wants to create a greener energy-positive city. To make this happen, innovation is needed for new energy solutions in transportation and buildings. Their demonstration areas are:

  • Sluppen-Tempe, one of Trondheim’s major sustainable urban development areas with corporate, public buildings and dwellings. A targeted Zero Emission Area, it includes both electrical and thermal loads.
  • Brattøra, which includes the office building “Powerhouse”, the Business College of Trondheim BI and another office building. All are connected via a common energy management system based solely on electricity.
  • NTNU Gløshaugen, a new city campus currently in development that encompasses seven buildings from old educational buildings to office buildings and the new Valgrinda ZEB Flexible Lab. Gløshaugen is its own concession area for both district heating and electricity and has its own Microgrid.
