Renewable Optimisation & Local Energy Network Analysis
Determining the optimal combination of renewable technologies and storage to install at a given site can be a difficult challenge, with local network constraints and different building operations and demand profiles making every case unique. IES’ network modelling allows for various options to be tested in order to work out the most suitable, site specific technologies, required to reach your network decarbonisation goal.
Building energy demands can be imported, through either measured/metered data or from digital twin energy model simulations. These hourly profiles show how each building and asset are using electricity and heat throughout the year, allowing seasonal or other periodic patterns of use to be determined to help inform which technologies may be most suitable.
Various technologies can then be tested, with hourly supply-demand matching calculated determine how the network will perform at any point in the year, down to an hourly timescale.
IES Consulting can guide you on which technologies may be most viable at your specific site, based on local resources and land availability. Bespoke strategies can then be developed and tested to understand the most cost-effective way to manage battery charging and discharging, electricity rates and tariffs, demand side management services, etc.
Technologies available to model include:
- Photovoltaics
- Wind turbines
- Hydro electricity
- Electrical storage
- Heat pumps
- Thermal storage
- CHP
- Custom python scripts (for novel strategies or technologies)
Scenarios can be compared to calculate metrics such as pay-back period and NPV to determine the most cost-effective solution for energy network decarbonisation.
