IES Consulting performed LEED energy modelling for this new retail development in Kenya.
IES consulting performed the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Appendix G PRM calculations to assess and document the EAp2/EAc1 pre-requisite and credit for a new shopping mall development in Garden City Nairobi, Kenya pursuing LEED 2009 NC Certification. The mall is currently under consideration and awaiting its final certification with the design inidcating a 26% energy and cost saving.
The design features open air courtyards that are heavily shaded by architectural parasols and other shading objects which meant the solar shading calculation by Suncast was a key influence to the true energy performance.
The development's car parking facilities include PV integrated canopies providing a renewable energy offset which was modelled in the energy performance savings.
Garden City is Kenya's first integrated residential, retail and office development with the mall development expected to be the second largest mall in East Africa, comprising 50,000m2 retails space for 100+ shops once the development is complete. The development was was awarded Vision 2030 status by the Kenyan Government in recognition of its economic growth impact.
