IES Consulting performed overheating and compliance modelling for the Aston Student Village development in Birmingham city centre.
A focus of the study was on the fenestration solution for the multi-storey residential blocks to ensure satisfactory comfort conditions. This involved assessing a series of glass and blind scenarios to feedback on their performance.
Due to the development's multiple floors this also led to a focus on the tall stairwell spaces to ensure air stratification did not impact on potential overheating. A series of staged openings allowed air movement within the stairwell to control the stratification impact.
IES worked to assess renewable energy solutions for the compliance modelling including wind turbines and the district CHP system.
