Key Facts

  • CFD used to address Pedestrian Comfort
  • Outdoor Breakout Spaces and Children's Play Areas were focal points on site

IES Consulting addressed pedestrian comfort by using CFD to model the air movement around the Jauna Teika development in Riga, Latvia. Focal points on site included outdoor break out spaces and children’s play areas with multiple wind directions modelled to calculate air speeds at these points. IES checked the feasibility of the site for activities like seating, standing and walking against the standard protocol of Lawson’s Pedestrian Comfort criteria. Using the Lawson Pedestrian safety criteria IES also determined if any location was susceptible to high speed gusts.
