IESVE used to perform Energy Analysis and LCC Analysis of 100 year old building.
Building Services Engineering firm, ecoMECH were tasked with performing Energy modelling and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) Analysis to predict future running costs of the newly refurbished 100 year old museum.
The new building includes: New Administrative areas, several education spaces including a new lecture theatre, and approximately 2000sqm of new exhibition space which will house one of the last surviving WW1 Devanha Landing Boats of the Gallipoli campaign.
The new exhibition space consists of critical environment control to maintain temperature and humidity within the strict lending requirements of other world class museums, crucial to the preservation of the artefacts.
ecoMECH were faced with the challenge of suggesting design improvements to minimise energy use whilst maintaining the strict indoor environment conditions. To do this they used IESVE to simulate thermal and infiltration loads and to create a realistic building load profile to carry out detailed energy analysis.
One of the design improvement proposed by ecoMECH was the addition of insulation to the existing exhibition under croft sofit which will reduce the annual energy consumption by approximately $15000 AUD per annum based on the simulation.
