Exchange model data between IESVE and Gaia Ground Loop Design

Streamline geothermal design with a two-way workflow between IESVE and Gaia Geothermal’s Ground Loop Design (GLD) software.

IES is an Official Reseller of Gaia Ground Loop Design (GLD) Software

The integration between IESVE and Gaia GLD delivers a seamless data exchange for geothermal ground source heat pump system design. IESVE users can effortlessly export design-day and hourly heating/cooling loads for precise ground loop design in GLD, and GLD users can export annual hourly groundwater temperature profiles to refine geothermal design simulations in IESVE.

Why buy a Gaia GLD license from IES?

  • IES’ formal reseller partnership with Gaia Geothermal, LLC, means you can purchase Ground Loop Design (GLD) directly from IES.
  • Export loads for GLD software from IESVE for Geothermal Heat Pump design in GLD.
  • Import annual hourly groundwater temperature from GLD for use in IESVE.
  • Benefit from purchasing your complete software ecosystem from IES.
  • Increase workflow productivity and enhance project collaboration.

Gaia GLD Frequently Asked Questions

Are the licenses annual?

Yes, though a 2-year license is available upon request.

Are the licenses floating?

The license is deployed via an encrypted USB key that protects against network sharing.

Who to go to for technical support?

For GLD, technical support is available here. For IESVE, technical support is available here.

Why not use the existing annual ground temperature profile that already exists in IESVE?

The ground temperature profile, called “Generic Yearly Absolute - Ground Temp” is of the ground in one climate.  It does not represent the water temperature from a GSHP in a specific climate.  GLD’s strength is in accurately calculating the heat transfer within the ground and the geothermal heat pump, accounting for the full geothermal borefield design and piping configuration.

Does GLD account for a multi-year simulation of the geothermal heat exchange?

Yes, it does. The user can enter the number of years, beyond 1 year (8,760 hours) if preferred.

Where can I assign the groundwater temperature profile in IESVE – can it be coupled on a loop with a cooling tower?

The groundwater temperature profile can be used in a number of places, depending on your model setup and HVAC configuration. It can be used as a heat pump source or sink, depending on whether it is being used for heating and/or cooling purposes. It can also be assigned to a hot water loop for pre-heating, chilled water for pre-cooling, and/or even on a Water-to-Air Heat Pump (heat transfer) loop and be coupled with a cooling tower for heat rejection, and/or other heat acquisition equipment (boiler, heat pump, etc) depending on the design intent.

How does the data exchange work between the two software tools?

See our demo here.

Do I need to use ApacheHVAC, or can I use ApacheSystems?

You can use either method for exporting loads from IESVE, though ApacheHVAC will allow for greater design accuracy. However, importing the hourly groundwater temperature is best suited for use with ApacheHVAC.

Is there a free trial available?

Yes, a free trial of Gaia GLD is available here.

A free trial of IESVE is available here.
