Why are my results different when I run both SBEM and ApacheSim methods?

The SBEM and the ApacheSim method will always produce different results - this is because SBEM carries out a steady state calculation using monthly, average weather data and the ApacheSim method tool uses hourly, real weather data to perform a dynamic thermal simulation.

Dynamic thermal simulation is more accurate also in its calculation due to the more sophisticated algorithms used to calculate the model thermal performance.  ApacheSim allows the user to link in solar shading through SunCast and bulk airflow through MacroFlo which are not available through SBEM.  This would also contribute to different results.

The two are not comparable as SBEM is not a design tool, it is a compliance tool.  What should be compared to measure building performance are the TER and BER values from the tool you are using.
