SunCast Error (-2): Causes and How to Fix

This error message is typically related to an issue with the geometry. In most cases, users can generate an error log by running the simulation in Legacy mode.
Tools > Preferences > Simulation

Run the simulation again and you will be prompted with the error message, click ok and then ‘Yes’ to view the error log file.

The report will write out the ID of the problem space.

Take a copy of the space ID (SF000012 in this example) and open the ModelIT module.
Right click the model browser and select ‘Go to space’

Paste in the space ID to highlight the problem space, then check for any obvious geometry errors and correct them. If the issue persists delete and redraw the space.

If you are running the simulation directly from an ASHRAE 90.1 navigator and not from SunCast, you can still find the error log file without using the Legacy Mode, first note the failed task ID in the Task Manager, it can be the main task, and sometimes it is a subtask. In the example below, it is a subtask and its ID is 9423 :

Then look for a folder with the same ID in the tasks folder located at:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\IES\tasks

The error log file will be located there and it can give you more clues.

If you still can't find the file, please zip up the entire task folder and send it to the Technical Support team.
