I want to update to the latest version of the VE will I have to uninstall the previous version?
No, if the latest version is a hotfix or Service Pack of the version you currently have installed then you will be able to download and apply a patch. Otherwise for a new major version release you will be able to download and install the full applications installer side by side with your existing VE installation.
