Should I use the 'inner volume' room representation?
Using inner volumes makes for more accurate input data. The width is derived from the element construction and has the following effects:
The internal areas of elements are reduced by the encroachment of adjacent elements.
1. In particular, floor area is reduced.
2. Room volume is reduced for the same reason.
3. The reduction of internal area affects the ApacheCalc and ApacheSim heat transfer calculations, tending to reduce conduction heat loss or gain and dynamic effects. It also affects the heat transfer calculations in Part L &Part J (which have their own rules for these calculations).
4. The reduction in floor area affects inputs such as casual gains which are expressed in W/m2.
5. The reduction in room volume affects air exchange rates expressed in ach.
