Slivers reported in ModelIT check.
Slivers are being reported in the model check. What are they? Is it ok to proceed with the simulation?
Slivers are very tiny gaps between two zones, usually the result of unmatched adjacencies.
Because it is so small you're not able to see the sliver in normal plan view.
If you zoom in though you will see the two zones do not exactly match up.
Slivers seldom have an impact on a thermal simulation but as ever it is up to the user to decide if they want to address the problem. Best approach to is to interrogate the geometry carefully to see that:
- All surfaces are as expected (Internal surfaces are not appearing as External)
- Construction assignments are correct (i.e A surface doesn't have a roof construction assigned when ceiling construction is expected).
If any of the above occur then we would advise either:
- Redrawing the space with the grid snap on. The grid size can go down to 0.0001 meters so it can be very accurate when creating geometry for building simulations.
- Using export GEM to export the geometry and then import it back into to ModelIT, this should correct most issues as ModelIT will automatically round to 6 decimal places. First though create a backup of your project and after importing the geometry use Merge Model data to take your templates across from the backup, unfortunately using this method means you will lose profile, construction assignments (but they will still be available for you to assign.)
