Why is my PC slow to do other tasks during simulations?
This is a result of the calculation modules hogging as much of the CPU clock cycles as it can get hold of. The only way of reasonably being able to run other packages at the same time is to buy a dual-processor PC or a PC with a modern dual-core CPU.
Using the Windows Task Manager we can change the priority and affinity of individual tasks. This can improve system performance and could lead to shorter (or longer) simulation times.
Main IES-VE processes to look for:
- apache.exe
- SBEM.exe
To start Windows Task Manager in Windows Vista/7 press Ctrl, Alt + Delete then select Start Task Manager. For other operating systems please see it's help file.
WARNING: Changing process priorities and affinities could lead to unstable behaviour and should only be attempted by those comfortable using the Windows operating system. If in doubt contact your own IT specialists.
