System Administrators

Notes and guidance on installing the software for system administrators.

Software Licence (keys) Directory

During the installation, a directory by the name of “keys” is created in the common application data area (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\IES\Apps\ on Windows XP or C:\ProgramData\ies\apps\ on Windows Vista), which is used to store the licences issued to you by Integrated Environmental Solutions.

Please note that after licences have been issued this directory should not be moved to an alternative location as this would invalidate the software licences.

Relocating the licences on a network, before obtaining software keys

If you have purchased a LAN or WAN license you will probably want to have the licence directory somewhere other than the default location. If that is the case, then the following procedure should be followed:

1. Create a new location on your network, with at least 3 directory levels, e.g.: \\server\share\IES\apps\keys
2. Run the IESVE software, cancelling any prompts to register software. Go to the menu item ‘Tools’ > ‘Troubleshooting’ > ‘Set License Folder’. Browse and select the new keys location (e.g.: \\server\share\IES\apps\keys). This will create a “keyspath.txt” file in the common application data area. Close all dialogs & return to the main IESVE window.
3. Go to the menu item ‘IES Online’ > ‘Request License Keys’ and follow the instructions to register the software and obtain a licence.
4. When your license has been set up, go item ‘IES Online’ > ‘Activate Software’. This will save your license to the new keys path e.g.: \\server\share\IES\apps\keys.

Permissions - Keys Directory

Users should be able to read, write, modify and delete to the files in the directory and any sub-directories (Full Control). Without this level of access users may be unable to acquire and/or relinquish licenses.

However we recommend limiting the following files to read-only access: ies.dat and keys.txt.

Additional Information - IESVE on a Network Server

The software can be installed on client machines only, to reduce server load. However if you wish to install it on a central server you must follow the instructions to change the location of the licence directory as above then run and register the software once it has been installed on the server machine. If you do not follow this procedure it is highly likely the users will be unable to access the license in the default location.

When running the software from machines other than the server the IESVE software is installed on, you will have to follow the instructions to change the location of the license directory as above the first time it is run by any user on that machine.

Please note: any changes to your licence setup will require the appropriate license type to be purchased.
